Autumn at home
Even though I’m crazy about summertime, I always feel very cozy when it’s getting dark in the evening and the candles can be lit in the house again. It’s time once again for my house to feel the autumn has arrived!
The base in my house is light and calm with pastel tones. But to bring the new season’s home, I change the colors regularly. And so in the autumn, I always like to bring it back to my decor. My favourite color for this season is definitely ochreous combined with green, wood and gold.
Our interior is full of heirlooms and pieces with personal meaning or a story. It is literally a family-home. Not only are we the second generation living here, but we also used furniture and art that was handmade by family members. The art on the wall are mostly originals by Marcel’s grandfather who – in his spare time – was a fervent and talented photographer, illustrator and painter. My grandfather made the coffee table with a tabletop that flips over and is natural wood on one side and white on the other. I change the entire layout every season. The open cupboard is moved, wall art replaced for other pieces and the armchairs get a new spot. The couch always stays in place, but by changing the coffee table every now and then by putting down several small tables or turning the table top of the vintage coffee table immediately gives a whole different atmosphere. This way I can adjust him to the season and of course with autumn is the wooden side at the top to form a warm environment.
Soon I will give my wall a different color. I would like to paint this in a warm tint so that I am comfortable and cozy in autumn and winter. It will take up to a couple of hours and you’ll be able to change it easily in a different color or wallpaper.
By working with shades of nature you add an autumn-like atmosphere to your home. And if the season is over, you can easily change them to a different color. I recently added a beautiful velours ochreous hocker to create even more sense of autumn.
Colors are easy to change by using new pads and combining them with candles in the same color palette. This way you can easily customize your interior to the season. Of course, plants are part of this. These will give a warm, cozy and natural atmosphere in your home and make it all the best.
I’m crazy about vintage and all when it comes to family. Our home is full of family pieces and we have wall art that was made by my husband’s grandfather. The stories we find behind this are amazing. For me, that is really indispensable in my interior. The chair was designed by Niels Hammelgaard for Ikea back in the 80’s. Our neighbour had this peace in his garage and gave it to me. I’m still very happy with this beautiful design.
In addition, I have a large sisal carpet under the woolen rug in the living room. This will make the room look even bigger and warmer. This beautiful design chair used to belong to my old aunt and has recently undergone a complete renovation. I am very proud of the result!
My favorite store is the thrift shop. I prefer to find all the thrift shops around this area looking for beautiful treasures. Sometimes I do not see anything at all for months and sometimes I’m lucky for weeks. Like this beautiful table with golden accents I scored at the thrift shop. This fits the ochreous color in our interior.
I always like to play with colors and make the seasons come back in my interior. And not only in the living room, but also in the bedroom, I change the atmosphere regularly. In the summer, I mainly have light colors, but in autumn I like to come back to the AW vibes.
By putting a vintage cabinet next to the bed with some nice vases and a Persian carpet on the floor, you have created a warm atmosphere in a light room. Plants are also indispensable here. These provide oxygen and it eliminates the overall picture.
Our office has been designed with low budget, but we tried to keep it as beautiful as possible. I have hung up all the nice memories and cards that I like.
